A crook in a security guard’s outfit pulls out a gun and robs Broward’s phone shop

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Florida. – Broward County deputies are looking for a man who disguised himself as a security guard and robbed a Lauderdale Lakes cellphone store at gunpoint, the agency said Wednesday.

BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro said just before noon on July 22 that the man, dressed in a gray security guard uniform, black hat and face mask, walked into the Mobile One store at 3680 W. Oakland Park Blvd., telling the employee that he wanted to sell him his phone and buy a new one.

“When the employee opened the door to the shelf where the phones are displayed for sale, the subject pulled out his handgun and pointed it at the victim’s face,” Caro said. “Subject pulled out a gray bag and asked the employee to place the phones in it. Subject is captured fleeing the scene in his vehicle, taking approximately $7,000 worth of phones with him.”

The entire crime was captured on surveillance video. It shows the man arrived and left in a ‘blue four-door sedan that had plastic on the roof and damage to the bonnet’, deputies say.

The car appears to be a late 2000s navy blue Ford Fusion with a spoiler.

Anyone with information is urged to call BSO Detective Mark Copley at 954-321-4738, use the agency’s SaferWatch app or contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

Caro said any information leading to an arrest in the case is eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
