Phone store

A message to the dismissive kid at the cell phone store

I know to you I’m just a hippie-looking old woman with a flip phone. I’m sure there’s a million places you’d rather be than sitting in an empty store helping me. That’s probably why you decided it would be easier not to help me. But guess what… you’re getting paid to do pretty much nothing but sit around right now, so you can at least pretend you want to help.

I hate to accuse you of being rude, but you were. When I was trying to tell you what was wrong with my phone, you told me to hold on at least 3 times. Wait? I’m not on the phone with you. And why did I have to hold on? You kept staring at something I couldn’t see. If you were too busy to help me, you should have told me you’d be with me in a minute. I would be happy to wait a few minutes to get your full attention.

Not only were you rude, but you were so dismissive. You told me you didn’t know anything about flip phones, so never mind. But that’s where I bought the phone. Maybe you could try to find out what the problem is, or even try to sell me another phone. No, you reset my phone and said if it didn’t work there was nothing you could do. That’s it? No advice, not even an “I’m sorry I can’t help you”. When I asked you if I should go to another store, you shrugged and said maybe.

Well, your reset my phone didn’t work, and you bet I’ll go to another store. As for you, I’m sure you don’t think that clammy hippie-carrying flip phone deserves your smile, courtesy, or kind words. But I myself have some mean words and a place to post them. Have a good day.

UPDATE: I went to the Millbrook branch of the cell phone store, and Vincent was so helpful, attentive and non-judgmental that it totally made up for the rude and dismissive kid. Thanks Vincent!
