Second suspect charged with armed robbery at cell phone store in Bonney Lake

UPDATE: Bonney Lake Police arrested 38-year-old William “Matty” Watson on Friday, February 11, 2022. Pierce County prosecutors have charged him with 1st degree robbery. Detectives say he led Tess Babauta to the armed robbery at the Metro PCS store at 21195 State Route 410 on December 30, 2021 and later picked her up.

He was released on bail pending trial.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department arrested a woman charged with robbing a cell phone store on December 30, 2021.

At 6:42 p.m., the suspect, identified as Tess Babauta, 30, entered the Metro by T-Mobile store in the town of Bonney Lake.

She showed a handgun, used a note, received about $1,000 from the employee and left without ever saying a word, according to deputies.

She was arrested on January 28 and charged with first-degree robbery.

During her court appearance, prosecutors asked that she be held on $150,000 bail. However, her bail was set at $5,000 because she was never convicted of a felony.

A court commissioner ordered her to wear an electronic home monitoring device if she was to be released on bail.

Babauta was also charged with first-degree impersonation. Prosecutors allege she used a 77-year-old woman’s credit card while the woman was hospitalized.

Police were able to identify and charge Babauta thanks to a tip from a FOX 13 News viewer.
