ORIGINAL STORY:

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department arrested a woman charged with robbing a cell phone store on December 30, 2021.

At 6:42 p.m., the suspect, identified as Tess Babauta, 30, entered the Metro by T-Mobile store in the town of Bonney Lake.

She showed a handgun, used a note, received about $1,000 from the employee and left without ever saying a word, according to deputies.

She was arrested on January 28 and charged with first-degree robbery.

During her court appearance, prosecutors asked that she be held on $150,000 bail. However, her bail was set at $5,000 because she was never convicted of a felony.

A court commissioner ordered her to wear an electronic home monitoring device if she was to be released on bail.

Babauta was also charged with first-degree impersonation. Prosecutors allege she used a 77-year-old woman’s credit card while the woman was hospitalized.

Police were able to identify and charge Babauta thanks to a tip from a FOX 13 News viewer.
