A man armed with an egg carton and suspicious of the 5G network accosted two employees at a cell phone store in Campbell River last weekend.
The incident happened around 5pm on Saturday at the Quinsam Communications store in the Discovery Harbor shopping complex.
“He was screaming about 5G, thinking people were spying on him. That was pretty much why he came,” Cody Spetifore, a Quinsam sales representative told Victoria Buzz.
“It was definitely an unusual way to demonstrate.”
The incident, which lasted about a minute, was captured on Quinsam’s security video.

In the video, viewers can see the man entering the store with a box of eggs and shouting about the 5G network. We then see him throwing eggs on the displays and the plexiglass behind which the workers are.
The unidentified man was wearing a red hoodie and a bandana over his mouth. No one was injured during the accident.
5G is a relatively new wireless network that was rolled out around the same time concerns about COVID-19 emerged in March 2020.
The network has seen its fair share of global conspiracies. The idea expressed by the unidentified man – that the 5G network is spying on him – is not new.
However, skinning the workers of a cell phone repair shop with an egg carton could be.
“It wasn’t scary. It was really funny, but mostly it was boring,” Spetifore said.
“Apparently he actually damaged the store.”
Spetifore said Campbell River RCMP are currently investigating the incident.
